Drawing Artists:

Sena Runa:

Sena Runa is an Istanbul-based artist, which experimented with the craft of paper quilling, all while trying to fill her spare time with a hobby. Runa quickly discovered she had a talent for colour and composition when working with paper and it wasn’t long before she began selling her pieces online. Her distinct quilling style developed so rapidly she was even able to quit her job in HR to continue the craft for full-time. I looked into Runa because I have used the same crafting techniques to create some of my work. I also used one of her books to help me create some of my pieces.

Arabesque Art:

For this "artist" I wanted to look more into the style that inspired me, to create some of my pieces of work, for this project. Arabesque is a term I learnt while looking up some engraved motifs, for inspiration. These motifs typically use stylised leaves, which were combined with spiralling stems. I wanted to use this style in my piece alongside my drawings of real flowers, as I thought the floral aspect would make a nice contrast, as this style can be seen as both alive or dead floral pieces. (I am using flowers within my pieces to symbolise life slowly dying like the animals I have depicted within my work).

Artist three

This artist has so many different art style that I thought she was amazing, I started taking inspiration from her. She works digitally like I have been testing out, but not only that but her work of simple one line drawings are just the style I was trying to create. She also started drawing birds, the subject of her work is exactly what I was looking for while trying to get some inspiration.

Drawing Statement:

I think drawing can be anything you like it to be, the act of you putting your creative ideas down, and giving them form is drawing. Even if said ideas are created with pen, pencil, paint, printmaking and or even sculpting materials. It is all a form of drawing. I have used drawing in many ways throughout this project, it has been a big learning step for me. This project has made me realise that I like using mixed media to complete my work. I have learnt I can use my 3D pen not only for sculpting but also to make fragile drawings that work well with my style of work, I have also tried new things like digital drawing and paint pouring and loved them both. I will never again stick to one medium throughout a project.

Work Photos:

This is my 8 foot continuous line drawing up close so you can see each section. For this project I used many different mediums to capture the image of a tree. At the top I used charcoal, and glitter.

I have to admit I didn't enjoy creating this piece, I think that it was because the shape and size of the paper made it very limited.

For this section I used Thread and acrylic paint.

Here I used water colour paint and a brush pen to depict my tree.

And lastly I used a biro pen and then a normal HB pencil.

This is my A1 cubist collage project. I got an A4 image from google images and copied the drawing, but used rolled up tissue paper and flat tissue paper to create definition. I used 5 different colours of tissue paper when creating this to get as close to the real thing as I could. I found this fun to do but very time consuming.

This is the image I tired to recreate through collage .

This is my A2 drawing of my cubist collage, only using pencil, to recreate it. I used a 4H for the lighter yellow parts, a HB for the other yellow, and a 5B for all the darker parts, such as red and black. I liked doing this piece but I don't often use shades within my art and found it rather difficult.

This is the start of my drawing project that supports my ART180 project. Here I used an A4 piece of paper and felt tip pens to create a large cat skull with a flower around it. The skull is to symbolise death and the flower symbolises life slowly moving its way to death, as all things die.

I like using simple line drawing to get my ideas out on paper.

Here is a A4 piece I created using two coloured biro pens, blue and pink.

I like the effect of the shadow like drawing.

IMG_20200411_170320.jpg

This is an A4 piece I created to add some humour into my project, as it is a sketch of a dead cat skeleton chasing a live bird, and I then used ink and a calligraphy pen to write "the way of LIFE". That is where I got the idea for the name my project.

I did this because I thought it was ironic because in everyday life, an alive cat would end up making a skeleton out of the bird.

This is an A4 acrylic painting I did of a bird. I thought it was a good first attempt of painting a bird. This is to symbolise the life side of my project.

IMG_20200411_170229.jpg
IMG_20200411_170332.jpg

Here I used inks and a calligraphy pen to create a A4 drawing, the colourful flower is to symbolise life and the black and dull flowers is to symbolise dead rotting flowers surrounding the only good one left.  I didn't like the smudges I got when using too much ink, I found it hard to control.

IMG_20200411_170510.jpg

Here is when I started to add an arabesque art style to my project. I used a A4 black piece of paper and white ink. I loved the contrast and how it pops. I began with the cat skull and then started adding a floral arabesque design. I like using the arabesque style as it can be interpreted as life or death.

IMG_20200411_170458.jpg

This is a development of the first drawing, Its still an A4 piece but I added collage aspects of brown and white ripped paper, on the white paper I used black ink instead of white, so you could still see the image.

When I started I liked it but by the end I thought it got a little overwhelming with all the different paper pieces and thought the first try went better.

This is an A5 glitter piece, on black paper and white glitter I created an arabesque

motif this was to further my arabesque style understanding. I find it hard to create the curves of this style and wanted to practice using an odd, hardly used medium.

This is a simple continuous line drawing of a cat, I used A3 paper and a brush pen to create this. I love the simplicity of this drawing and yet you can still tell it is a cat.

I think this is a good figurative drawing symbolising live. To develop something like this I would splash some watercolour markings on, the same colours as a cat (could be brown, black, ginger or/and leave white space)

This is a skeleton sketch of a rabbit and an outline of a live rabbit made from the word "Dead" in red writing. I used A4 paper, a HB pencil, and a red fine liner.

I used the image of a rabbit as it is also another animal that cats will try to attack and kill.

This is a drawing of a cross stitched bird, I have produced for Marcia's project, it is on A5 paper using fine liners. I really like this style, of drawing as if I was cross stitching something.

This is another cross stitch style piece of work, this time I used acrylic paint and 24x24cm mount board, to create the shape of a flower.

This is a 20cmx 20cm canvas I produced using acrylic paint and a palette knife. It's more of a figurative flower, but it represents life.

I like how this piece looks, with the messy tool strokes of paint around the edges of the flower.

This is also a 20cm by 20cm canvas, created with a palette knife and acrylic paint but this time it is a fully abstract piece, this is meant to represent the flower dying.

I love the colours, I just wish I filled the whole canvas wit colour and left no white space.

Here is another 20cm by 20cm canvas but this time it is a cross stitch painting, made with acrylic paints.

because the canvas is so small it was hard to get any detail in the piece so it is hard to tell its meant to be a flower. If I were to do it again I would try a bigger canvas.

This is an abstract flower that I have created using acrylic paints, and the folding technique. It represents life.

This was created on an A3 page.

This is a flower I painted using acrylics also but this one I used two colours on the brush to create a blend of colours in the brush strokes. An A3 page

I found this a hard technique as you can only create the right blend with a single brush stroke. Yet I liked how this turned out.

This is another A3 acrylic painting I used the same technique as the one before, to try and perfect the technique but I don't believe the practice helped much as I liked the painting prior to this one much better.

This is meant to be a rabbit made out of paper quilling, I don't think I got the shape perfect but it was my first time making a rabbit, and I do like this technique. A5 sized.

This is a bird made from the same technique as the rabbit, I do believe this one came out a lot better. It is also A5 sized.

These are the flowers I made with the quilling technique, I love the yellow flower I made, it's got the perfect proportions.

These photos of the process of my watercolour flower painting. I used a more abstract approach and used a biro for the details.

I like this technique, it was fun to do. A3 page.

This is a drawing I made with my 3D pen, I love this technique. and how well the bird came out.

This is also done using my 3D pen, its a rabbit skeleton, and it is a very fragile piece just like a real skeleton would be. I love it.

Here I started a new technique of digital drawing. I absolutely love how these digital drawings look. This is a simple continuous line drawing of a cat.

Here is where I got out of my comfort zone and played around with different pen options and created a rabbit. I am really happy with this but it was hard to create.

To keep up with some of my other styles I tried to create a digital cross stitch. I like how it turned out. It was a lot easier than painting one.

This is another continuous line drawing of two birds.

IMG_20200508_133244.jpg

and this last piece is another new technique I tried, paint pouring. I love how the colours flow. I used all the colours I would if I was to paint a flower.

To me this represents a flower decaying or dying, so this piece is closely connected to both the life and death aspects.

I really enjoyed doing this abstract piece.

on a 30cm by 30cm canvas.
